Relesys 2025
Lead product designer
Relesys offers an all-in-one workforce management app that supports training, communication, and operations for retail organizations. This project focused on boosting user engagement by designing an in-app achievement system and its management features within the Relesys platform.
App InterfaceWeb InterfaceUser Research

Observation
Young Gen-Z workers (Relesys' primary target users) often view retail jobs as temporary positions during school or studies. Analytics showed significantly lower app engagement in this segment, with time spent in the app falling well below expected benchmarks.
Project Goal
The goal of this project was to increase motivation among young, frontline employees, through gamified experiences that recognize their progress and contributions, ultimately driving higher adoption and sustained interaction with the app.

Research
To validate the hypothesis, we conducted client interviews and desk research on competitor gamification solutions.
Research Limitations:Due to timeline constraints, the discovery phase was limited. Research relied primarily on manager and stakeholder feedback rather than direct frontline worker input, which meant some end-user pain points may not have been fully captured.

App Solution
Achievement Overview: Highlight on user profiles leading to a dedicated page displaying all achievements. Visible to managers and colleagues, creating competitive motivation.
Login Streaks: Daily streak counter encouraging consistent app usage through gamified habit-building.
Instant Recognition: Pop-up celebrations with confetti animation when achievements unlock, providing immediate gratification.
Manager Platform Solution
Design Challenge:Balancing client demand for fully customizable achievements against severe time constraints and lack of backend resources. Managers needed quick content creation with customization flexibility, but building a full custom achievement engine wasn't feasible. The platform design prioritizing speed and efficiency included:
Pre-defined Achievement Library: 20 action-based achievements ready to activate, eliminating design work for time-strapped managers.
Customization Builder: Quick editing of achievement visuals, names, and descriptions for clients wanting brand alignment without starting from scratch.
Achievement Levels & Automation: Multi-level achievement structure where managers define progression thresholds once, then the system automatically rewards users as they hit milestones—eliminating manual tracking.
Scheduled Publishing: Managers can set up multiple achievements at once and schedule activation for strategic timing, driving engagement to different app areas without ongoing manual intervention.

Validation & Feedback
During the prototyping phase, we manage to find time for one round of usability testing on both platforms with positive results and identified areas for future enhancement.
End User - Frontline employees responded enthusiastically to achievement highlights on their profiles and the ability to compare rewards with colleagues—validating that competitive visibility drives increased app engagement.
App responsible - Management teams valued the pre-defined achievement library for its speed, calling setup "remarkably quick." Visual customization options were well-received, though managers expressed strong interest in fully customizable action-based achievements for future iterations.

Future Improvements
Due to time constraints, I focused on shipping a lean MVP for beta testing with enterprise clients. Post-launch feedback identified key enhancement opportunities:
In-App Manager Kudos - Direct recognition tool allowing managers to acknowledge specific employee achievements in-app, addressing the need for immediate, visible feedback beyond automated rewards.
Fully Customizable Achievements - Platform expansion enabling managers to create achievements from scratch—selecting which actions trigger rewards, not just customizing visuals of pre-defined options.Daily Reward System: Enhancement to existing login streaks where enterprise clients can boost daily motivation with customizable rewards—from in-app points and gems to physical incentives.

Project Goal
The goal of this project was to increase motivation among young frontline employees through gamified experiences that recognize their progress and contributions, ultimately driving higher app adoption and sustained engagement. The solution required a dual-platform approach: an engaging in-app experience for end users and an achievement builder for client-side app management.
